Interlibrary Loan

Patron INFO accounts are no longer available. ILL is temporarily unavailable due to the Canada Post strike.

As part of a special agreement, you can access the collections of over 200 public libraries in Ontario, as well as public and academic libraries across the country, the Ontario Archives, and Library and Archives Canada. This agreement is called "Interlibrary Loan" or ILL for short.

In Ontario, ILLs are facilitated by a shared network, called Resource Sharing for Groups or RS4G, a partnership between the participating public libraries and the Ontario Library Service with support from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport.

What can be requested by ILL?

Adult, Young Adult and Juvenile Books that are not available in the Middlesex County Library collection, including Large Print and multi-lingual items. Microfilm can also be requested, but must be viewed at library branches where microfilm reader equipment is available (Strathroy, Lucan, Parkhill, Dorchester and Glencoe).

We are unable to request books published in the previous or current calendar year (2023 or 2024), mass market paperbacks, audiobooks, DVDs, and board books. For these items, please use the Suggest For Purchase form.  If you are unsure of the publication date or format of the item you are looking for, contact your local Middlesex County Library branch for assistance.

How do I request an ILL?

  1. Call or visit a Middlesex County Library branch and have the staff request on your behalf.

  2. Complete the form at the bottom of this page.

Due to a recent change, individual ILL accounts are not currently available.

When will my ILL arrive?

Please allow 2-4 weeks for interlibrary loan requests to arrive. If your email address is listed on your library account, you will receive an email when your ILL is ready for pick-up. If we do not have your email address, the library branch will call you when your ILL arrives.

How long can I keep my ILL?

Loan periods for interlibrary loan items are determined by the loaning library and will vary item by item. Requests for a 3 week renewal may be made by contacting your local branch, or by emailing interloan@middlesex.ca before the due date.  Please note that the loaning library reserves the right to deny renewal requests.
