Books by Mail

Books by Mail is currently unavailable due to the Canada Post strike.  Updates, including alternative services in case of a prolonged strike, will be posted here and on our social media. 

For eldery or house-bound patrons who are unable to physically visit our branches, we offer a Books-by-Mail service. Books are mailed via Canada Post with postage and return postage paid. Books are sent for an extended loan period.

Renewals can be requested by telephone. Our staff selects books based on the patron’s stated preferences. Specific titles and authors or Large Print format can also be requested.

To get started with our Books by Mail service, please complete both pages of our Books by Mail form, then return to any Middlesex County Library, email as an attachment to outreachservices@middlesex.ca or mail to:

Talking Books

For those who are unable to read printed books because of vision or other impairments, we offer audiobooks on CD by mail. Items Patrons receive two or more talking books by mail, postage and return postage paid. They are selected on the patron’s interests.

Long Term Care Collections

Long Term Care Homes and Adult Day Centres throughout Middlesex County are able to provide their residents with books to read through the library's Deposit Collection service. Staff request the number of and type of materials they wish to receive, and items are delivered by library staff on a monthly basis. Residents can request a selection of fiction, non-fiction, DVD and audiobooks titles.

Cognitive Care Kits

Cognitive Care Kits are a support tool for the caregivers of people living with dementia. The kits are designed to help families connect through simple sorting, trivia, picture recognition and reading activities. Several themes are available based on personal interests (food, activities, animals, household items). Learn more about our Dementia Services.

Additional Services

Digital Audiobooks and eBooks

Middlesex County Library offers several options for patrons to access both digital audiobooks and eBooks, which some patrons may find easier to use than traditional print.  These services can be can be downloaded as an app to a mobile device or accessed on a computer. An internet connection is required.

Centre for Equitable Library Access Collection (CELA) 

The Centre for Equitable Library Access (CELA), is Canada’s comprehensive accessible reading service, providing books and other materials to Canadians with print disabilities in the formats of their choice. A national not-for-profit organization, CELA is fully funded to serve 97% of the estimated 3 million Canadians with print disabilities in partnership with member public libraries and we offer a digital-only service to those in non-funded areas. CELA provides access to 800,000 professionally produced titles to provide people with print disabilities with a quality library experience.

Middlesex County Library partners with CELA to offer our patrons access to books, magazines, newspapers and described videos in a choice of formats including audio, braille and accessible eBook.  Learm more about CELA and accessing their services.
