Service Disruption: Software Upgrade

Middlesex County Library is moving to a new software system in June.  While we are making every effort to ensure disruptions for patrons are minimal, some services will be impacted.  We thank you for your understanding and patience while we make this change to serve you better.

Service Disruption Timeline

Saturday, June 13:

This is the last day you’ll be able to place holds, renew items and access your complete reading history before the service disruption.

Sunday, June 14 – Sunday, June 21:

During this time some services will be limited, but you can still visit the library to check-out items, enjoy programs and make use of computers and Wi-Fi.  Just be sure to bring your library card!

During this week:

  • You will only be able to check-out items if you have your library card with you.
  • You will not be able to access to your online library account.
  • You will not be able to place items on hold or renew items.
  • You may experience disruptions with our digital collections and online resources including Hoopla, CloudLibrary, PressReader and Kanopy.
  • Items can still be returned, but they won’t be checked in until next week.  Consider waiting until after June 22 to return items.
  • Extended Hours in Coldstream and the Adelaide Metcalfe NovelBranch will be unavailable.

  • You can access your online account to view your check-outs, place holds and renew items.  Please note that it may take until Saturday, June 27 for items checked out or returned during the week of June 15-20 to be reflected on your account.

Saturday, June 27:

By Saturday, June 27 all items checked out or returned during the disruption period will be reflected on your account.

Wednesday, July 22:

  • Extended Hours in Coldstream resume

What to Expect After the Software Change:

  • Middlesex County Library is going fine free!  Any overdue fines that were on your account will be cleared, and overdue fines will not be charged on any items going forward.  Replacement fees will still be charged for unreturned or damaged items.
  • Beginning immediately the hold pick-up period for all items will be five open days.
  • Your online account will have a new look! Information previously found using 'My Bookshelf' can now be found in your 'Account Portal':
    • access your account portal when logged in by clicking or tapping the person icon in the upper right hand corner of the screen and selecting the 'Account Portal' button.
    • Using our catalogue on your computer?   Use the menu along the left hand side to navigate.
    • Using our catalogue on your mobile device? Look for the three lines in the upper right, below the search bar.  Tapping this icon will open the menu.
    • On both you'll find your checkouts, holds and reading history under 'Checkouts and Requests'.
  • In order to maintain up to date demographic information to better serve our communities, we will be asking for your birthdate when you renew your card, or when registering for the first time.
  • To ensure information has carried over correctly, library staff may ask you to verify your address.
  • The MyLibrary app will no longer be available, but our new app will be launching soon!  Watch for more information to come.
